Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Bolivia is during the dry season (May–October), especially if you’re hoping to hike, cross the Andes, or catch clear skies over the Uyuni Salt Flats. If seeing the famous “mirror effect” at the salt flats is your priority, though, you’ll actually want the wet season instead.

Visiting in the Dry Season (May–October)

This is Bolivia’s most popular travel window, and for good reason — clear skies and stable conditions make it the easiest time to explore. It’s the best choice if you’re planning to hike in the Andes, visit remote highland towns, or want reliable weather for outdoor activities. Just know that nights can get cold, especially in June and July, particularly at higher altitudes.

Visiting in the Wet Season (November–April)

Fewer travelers means lower prices and quieter attractions — but rain, especially in the Amazon and lowlands, can complicate transportation and outdoor plans. The one big exception: this is the only time to see the Uyuni Salt Flats’ famous mirror effect, when a thin layer of water turns the salt flats into a giant reflective sheet. If that photo is on your bucket list, this season is non-negotiable.
